Genetics Study

What does the study involve?

If you agree to take part, the study involves one visit with the potential for an additional two visits.
The first visit can be done during a regular clinic visit at CHOP or HUP, or can be arranged at the Clinical and Translational Research Center (CTRC) Nutrition Lab at CHOP or HUP. The first study visit will last approximately 15 minutes.
Depending upon the results of the genetic study, you may be eligible for participation in studies of insulin secretion. These additional study visits take approximately 4-5 hours to complete.

Study Visit 1:

  • Medical record review
  • Medical records for pulmonary function, BMI, and diabetes development will also be reviewed over the subsequent 5 years
  • Blood draw

Optional Study Visit 2:

  • Body measurements
  • Mixed Meal Tolerance Test
    *Only for those who are not being treated for CFRD

Optional Study Visit 3:

  • Glucose potentiated arginine stimulation testing

All clinically relevant results will be shared with you and, if you give us permission, your/ your child’s CF doctor.
